The moving of the Holy Spirit was dynamic at our church yesterday, we mistake the move of God many times with a number beside it, however, this morning as I read Acts 1 I noticed that the move of God is not measured by the amount of people effected by His move but by the amount of obedience. The disciples were in the upper room in Jerusalem and the power of God showed up. The one reoccurring theme that kept coming up yesterday as many were baptized and saved was the word OBEDIENCE. Obedience means to simply do something that has been commanded to do. I find it interesting here that the disciples were commanded to WAIT for the promise. There are times when we must be obedient in waiting, we must produce the fruit of being active in patience to see the promise or to see the move of God in our situations. Yesterday at our church there was a spontaneous baptism but the Lord kept reminding me of His sovereignty and the fact that nothing catches Him by surprise. This is a comforting thought to all of us that need God to move in our behalf's. Look at what Acts 1:4-5 says- And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, "which," He said, "you have heard from Me; 5 for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now."
It is so easy to get ahead of God in situations. When trying to make a decision, when leading someone to Christ ( Matt Hames had a great testimony about this with Cornelius) when cultivating the fruits of the Spirit in our lives. This is something that verse 7 calls seasons and to every thing there is a season. God moves on obedience and in HIs timing that is always perfect. Don't misunderstand, the action of patience doesn't mean we do nothing, the disciples were all in one accord and seeking the will, word and worship of Jesus. Don't get discouraged today if you don't see God moving on your behalf just yet, I had a friend tell me one day that when we are down to nothing God is up to something. My prayer today for all of those that read this is that we will empty ourselves out and be patient and obedient to His word. The disciples didn't move until they were told to, and boy did the Holy Ghost show up. I need Him to show up in my life and in my situations however, until He leads Ill worship while I'm waiting.
