Guarding Your Weak Areas

I pray that all is well this morning as we start a new day, I am challenged by the word of God as a lesson from Major League Baseball has made its way into my quiet time. As some of you may know, I have a background in baseball and as I watched a game last night between the Cleveland Indians and my former team the Boston Red Sox my heart went out to a player for the Indians, it was the catcher Carlos Santanta. I have actually attached at the bottom of the blog the video highlight from the game last night. I was led to Proverbs 7:24-27 here are the words:
24 Now then, my sons, listen to me;
       pay attention to what I say.
 25 Do not let your heart turn to her ways
       or stray into her paths.

 26 Many are the victims she has brought down;
       her slain are a mighty throng.

 27 Her house is a highway to the grave, [d]
       leading down to the chambers of death.

The tone in this proverb is heightened and the verbiage is extreme but it is a stern reminder for all of us that we must guard the weak areas of out lives, each person may have a different struggle but the Lord desires that we guard ourselves from the dangers of past strongholds. You are probably wondering how this lines up with the Indians cather?? If you watch the video clip you will notice the catchers leg is in a vulnerable position as the runner slides into him. One of the first things that we are taught in spring training is how to protect ourselves from an injury of this magnitude. You see he left his leg vulnerable to a dangerous situation and this poor guy may have ended his career. It is the same for you and I as we live our daily lives, the Lord has shown us how to protect ourselves from the wiles of the devil and the vulnerability of sins grasp through His word. This catcher was enjoying one of the finest rookie seasons that any catcher had enjoyed for quite sometime but is now devastated because of the injury. Will you today my friends please guard your eyes, ears, hands, feet and thoughts as the enemy desires to steal, kill and destroy. THings can be going so great and in a moments notice because of not having guards up on the weak areas of our lives we can fall into something that could destroy us. Thanks be to God that gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!! Today be an over comer!!

  1. Shawn,
    I was also watching the game last night. I was thinking that we do that kind of stuff too often. We expose our weaknesses for meaningless things. His team was ahead 6-2 at the time and this one run just wasn't worth it.
    That is the question you have to ask yourself...is it worth it? I guess in the world of baseball if it was the 9th inning of the 7th game of the World Series and he was trying to prevent the tying run from scoring, maybe it is worth it.
    But for us in our daily life you should fully let your guard down on your weakest parts to our Lord Jesus Christ in an effort to take away those weaknesses.
    May God bless this young man so that he may recover from this injury. Also prayer for the Boston player as often times this has a great negative effoect on the player that "causes" the injury.
