A Monday Morning Question

My heart is desiring more of God, more of His purpose being fulfilled in my life, recognition of my assignment is not enough if there is not one question that leads my everyday.
Its not only important to ask who we serve, but what do we serve? You see I have found something this morning that I so desire to have employed in my life. John 3:30- He must increase, I must decrease!
You see we all are going to serve or follow someone or something, for some it may be a job, or self, or others. I am guilty many times of following my emotions or what I see instead of what God has spoken. However, the key to it all is found in this verse from the lips of John the Baptist, and here is where we become servants of righteousness that God calls us to be. He must increase, but I must decrease!

I love how John says this, there is an importance here not only in what he says but how he says it. He places Christ first, he doesn't say that he would decrease first, you know why? Because unless Jesus is first place in our lives we will fail continually to live a life of servant hood to the Lord Jesus! I cant do this in my own strength, I need God to help me decrease, I can have the mindset to be humble and to walk with Jesus but I need the Lord to be bigger in my life that I and my emotions, my circumstances, and my flesh can exalt themselves in any situation! Oh may God help us to to become small, so that He may have pre eminence in our lives!

How did John decrease? He pointed everyone to Jesus, he pointed everyone to the wonderful Saviour! By the way he lived, spoke, acted and reacted! A true servant of righteousness will die to self, so that the flesh doesn't get in the way of Christ being exalted in a life! We must live the old song, Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full in His wonderful face and the things of earth will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace!
The other day I was burning a fire in our fire pit and I noticed as the fire got bigger, the things I was burning got smaller. The paper, wood, sticks, and straw got to a point where they could not be seen anymore, the only thing that could be seen was the flame! Oh may we decrease and the flame of God be all that is noticed in our lives! Be blessed today my friends and let us decrease together by placing Him first!

  2. Great analogy about the fire. May we all take a step back and let the Lord be as awesome as He is!
