What a great night in the Lord last night at my church, as we celebrated the mission and the ministry of so many that have given their lives to the service of the Lord! I am humbled by the devotion and passion for those that have simply said," Yes Lord" to the call of God in their lives. However, this made me think about my own involvement in missions and as I prayed this morning something went off in me like a bomb concerning missions that I want to share with you. It came to me in part as Pastor preached on Matthew 9:37-38 as Jesus had a heart for the people of God to do the work of God. Look a little further at chapter 10:5-6- Jesus sent them forth and commanded them, Go not into the way of the Gentiles or to the Samaritans but rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel! This is where the truth lies and the Lord spoke to me, Jesus had a progressive list in the lives of His disciples in regards to missions. He also speaks on this in Acts 1:8- You shall receive power when the HOly Ghost comes on you and you shall be witnesses to Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and to the world. The question the Lord spoke to my heart is, "AM I CONDUCTING MISSION WORK IN MY OWN FAMILY FIRST?" Jesus wanted the work to be done in Jerusalem first, to those that were home folks so to speak, those that were in sight and in their everyday lives.
I am not saying that we should not support missions, go where we are called and pray continually for the work however, are we as Christians doing everything we can to bring the gospel to the place where Jesus called us to do it first? I have lost people on both sides of my home, I have family members that do not know Jesus, I have a little girl and a bride that needs my passion for the Lord to overflow into their lives. This verse grasped my heart, 2 Corinthians 5:20 We are ambassadors for Christ! AM I being an ambassador for Christ at home? If I have to go across the world to be one and am not sharing the gospel to those that are in my direct sphere of influence am I missing it? Lord please give me a passion for the lost, at home first then across the world. The conviction is one that starts with our personal lives. If the passion is there for the lost the work to the lost will be evident in our everyday lives. Whether we go to Russia or the Wal Mart, I don't want to miss it, today look at your family as the mission field first, it may just change the way you see them and the way you see yourself.
