Yesterday in Sunday School we went on a journey through the Bible, looking at some of the Moms in the Bible. As we journeyed we pulled some characteristics from them that all of us could apply to our daily lives. The first Mom that we looked at was Eve. While the groups were investigating their given Mothers to explore, I read a little of Chapter 3 of Genesis and wanted to share some insight into one of the most debated, most well known dialogues in the word of God. The account between satan and Eve brings so many questions into consideration but something took place that I think brings great light on why we as Christians get into trouble many times.
Genesis 3:1-3 Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, "Has God indeed said, 'You shall not eat of every tree of the garden'?"
2 And the woman said to the serpent, "We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; 3 but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, 'You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.'"
Ok, here it is folks, "Do you know what Gods word says?" The most important thing to remember here is that Eve knew Gods word, she actually quoted the word to satan. HOwever, what happened next would bring the peril that we find ourselves in even today. COMPROMISE is the christianity killer! Lets not look to harshly at Eve, we at times compromise the word that God has given us and drop it in a time of temptation and comfort to conform to the worlds way of doing things or others ways of getting things. This is a stern reminder that the root of a life that is un attached to the Lord is the decision to not be obedient to the word of God. The saints of old faced times of persecution and death even, John Browne was a man that lived in the 1500's and held onto Gods word even in the face of death. He refused to renounce Gods word and practice false religions and idolatry and was faced with a decision. Renounce the gospel of Jesus Christ or be burned at the stake. While on the burning stake in front of his wife and children he told his wife to raise the children in the fear and reverence of the Lord. As he was being burned the crowd heard him say, Into thy hands I commit my spirit." He did not compromise, will we??
